3-6-2025 Pip 3 Is Here!

Today at 10:21 we spotted Pip movement in the third egg. You can see the chick’s beak moving inside the egg. At 10:53 the Pip site looked a bit larger.

We are under snowy weather today. Jackie and Shadow may hunker down for the whole day and skip the feedings, even though there is plenty of food on the nest. Protecting the chicks from the elements is very important.

They ate very well and had very full crops yesterday, so they should be fine for a few days on the contents of their crops.

Hatching is a long process. it may take a day or more for the chick to fully emerge from the shell.

We are expecting sunny weather tomorrow. Just in time for the new Chick3!
Meanwhile, we will remain patient and hold the most positive thoughts.

  10. What a happy little family. Love the eaglets.

  11. I really don't know whether to be happy about this 3rd Pip event or not. I'm real nervous. Everything that I've read about eagles so far has stated that its rare for 3 eaglets from the same clutch to make it to maturity. More often than not, it will either be killed by the bigger siblings or it will starve to death because the others will be getting fed more often then the smallest one. So i had been happy that the 3rd would mostly likely not hatch, because that would be preferred over the likely alternative. Now I would love to believe that Jackie and Shadow would be the rare parents that would insure that the 3rd grows to a healthy adult. But I think it best to deal in reality.
Understand people, I'm not trying to be negative here or a Debbie Downer. I just hope everyone understands that this is nature here. And nature, while often beautiful and hopeful, its also brutal, unjust and unforgiving.

  12. 3 pleaseeeee!

  27. I live in Michigan near Lake St. Clair and have seen eagles on and off over the years. With the proximity to a golf course with lots of big tall pine trees and to the lake for fish, and rabbits and squirrels aplenty it’s good they return year after year. But I’ve never seen something like this up close. Just so cool! Hope it
